Dyson recently released the Dyson Airwrap Styler. I was thrilled to have been a part of the launch back in October. One of my favorite hair stylists, Jen Atkin, a brand ambassador for Dyson, also demonstrated this tool on models at the event. I’ve been watching her use it ever since. I love watching her on Instagram stories. Since then, I’ve had time to use the tool and form my opinions on it. I’ve gotten so many questions since it has appeared in stories during some of my hair chats on Instagram. Here’s my complete review of the Dyson Airwrap Styler.
Siwatchinghing the founder of Dyson, James Dyson, talk about the technology, I have a whole new appreciation for this tool and any other tool on the market. There’s so much more that goes into a product like this than I realized. Dyson is known for their innovative technology but that takes on a new meaning when you dive into the numbers behind it. This tool took 6 years to develop with 642 prototypes. The company spent $31.4 million on research and development. Dyson also borrowed a bit of insight from the aviation industry. The tool takes advantage of the Coanda Effect, which is the same phenomenon that causes aerodynamic lift in planes. You can see this in action when you hair seems to magically wrap around the tool without your assistance.
Turn on your JavaScript to view contentI could be a little biased on today’s post because I’ve been dreaming of a tool like this since I was a teenager. Having curly hair, I convinced my mom to buy every tool on the market. Nothing really did the job quite like this one though.
Quality. I’ve been a long time fan of Dyson. The company spends millions on research and development to create the best products for their consumer. They also have incredible customer service. Over the years, I’ve always heard the same things about the brand, “It’s an investment, but their products and customer service are the best. They made it so easy to…” The Dyson Airwrap Styler comes beautifully packaged in a leather case allowing you to keep the styler and the attachments together. This was a brilliant idea by Dyson because it makes me carefully place the Airwrap Styler in its case instead of throwing it in my basket with all my other styling tools.
Multifunctional. This is where the Dyson wins in my opinion. It’s a blow dryer, a brush/blow dryer, flatiron, a 1.2-inch curling iron and 1.6-inch curling iron. It’s the whole enchilada. I often get asked if it will replace all my tools. As much as I’d love to say yes, it doesn’t replace everything. I love my curling irons. However, I haven’t picked up my old hair dryer since I got my Airwrap. I love that you can adjust the temperature with multiple heating options.
Multitask Enabling. This might seem like a silly reason to love something but I only have to use one hand with the Airwrap. That means I can drink my coffee and blow dry my hair. I can write down notes (I wrote the outline for this post while using the Airwrap), check text messages, check my calendar, etc! When I discovered I could drink my coffee and blow dry my hair, this made me happy. The attachments are also incredibly easy to take off and put on. I do however have to put the coffee down for that though.
Volume. Ladies, this tool gives you VOLUME! I assume this is due to the airflow of the Dyson. It’s circulating air around your hair, not just pushing hot hair towards your scalp, which actually makes our hair flat.
Reduces Drying Time. After showering, I timed how long it took to dry each side. My traditional method, airbrush and blow dryer took me 6 minutes and 54 seconds. The Dyson Airwrap took me 5 minutes and 13 seconds. Please note my hair was air drying at the moment, but nonetheless, we saw a 20% reduction in hair drying.
Cost. The elephant in the room. This tool is not cheap. After seeing the Dyson team talk about the years of testing and developing the tool, I have a better appreciation for the price tag.
The Dyson Comes in three configurations. There’s not a huge difference in pricing for the complete set, but at least they give you options!
Turn on your JavaScript to view contentBut the big question is, Is the Dyson Airwrap Styler worth it?
Here’s my answer. It depends on you. If you’re someone like me who spends hours blow drying and heating your hair. It’s worth it. It will reduce drying time, reduce the number of tools you have to use after showering, and put less heat and stress on your hair.
Now, if you’re someone who only occasionally blow dries your hair, doesn’t like blow drying your hair or just someone who is looking for a miracle tool, this might not be for you. There is a learning curve with the Airwrap Styler too. After a couple of sessions, you’ll start to find your rhythm. Warning, please don’t buy this expecting your hair to look perfect immediately. You need to invest the time to learn how to make it work for your hair.
Hot. The tool does get hot, so please be careful. It’s just like a blow dryer, granted the heat is less harsh, but if you keep it on your skin, you’ll feel the burn.
Learning Curve. There is a large learning curve when it comes to using this devise. You have to learn how to position your hands and hair to get the most out of the tool. I’ve been using it for a few weeks and I still don’t feel 100% comfortable yet.

Here are a few of the questions I have been getting around about the Dyson Airwrap Styler.
Can you use it on wet hair or do you have to blow dry it first?
It’s recommended that you use it on wet/damp hair. You’ll get the best results if you have some moisture in your hair. This is where Dyson performs best! You’ll see some results if your hair is dry, but nothing like you’d see if the hair was wet prior to using.
Is it uncomfortable to hold?
It takes time to get used to holding it. That was the one thing that took me the longest to learn. How to hold and position the tool, especially when it came to using the curling barrels
Is it heavy?
It doesn’t feel too heavy to me, but I also use a blow dryer everyday of my life. I didn’t really notice a difference.
How will I replace the round brush once it loses some of its bristles?
It does come with a warranty but once that expires you can reorder parts as needed directly drom the dyson here.
How does it do with thick hair?
Works wonders! I think this is why Dyson created this tool. I have thick hair, but I have thin strands of hair (if that makes sense). Someone with thick hair still needs to section out the hair and dry from bottom to top, but it works for us!
How do you think it would do with curly hair?
Great! After years and years of blow drying, nearly all my curls are gone. Yet, I still have the curls at the front of my hairline, tangles, etc. Again, I think you have to learn how to use it. The Airwrap Styler seems to do best with some texture in the hair.
Do you think this would be good at smoothing naturally curly hair?
Yes, I do. I truly believe that this tool helps us ladies with curly hair. You see my hair above. I feel you. I get you. But I fought my hair for so long and I turned it almost straight! My hair is really smooth and straight above. I Love it.
Did it leave your hair frizzy?
NO FRIZZ!!!!
Does it cause breakage?
The only place I see breakage is when I try and curl the Airwrap while it’s on. I wouldn’t recommend twisting the wrap, your hair can get tangled in the base where the attachments are placed.
Do you feel it does less damage than other heat products?
100%. My hair looks a lot healthier in just a few weeks of reducing hot air from my blow dryer.
If your hair is really long, would it tangle it?
I think this is something that could potentially happen but I’ve watched so many videos on this tool and it seemed to work for long hair as well.
Can you make bouncy curls like with a curling wand?
Not yet, but when I can, I will show you! As amazing as the Airwrap is, there are certain things it’s not capable of doing and I’m ok with that, because I love creating different style curls with my wands.
Can you get the volumized blow out look with this?
YES! I talked about this in my post but I love the body and volume I get. Here’s my theory… As much as I LOVE my curling irons, it makes my hair dull and flat. After using all that heat on my hair, although it’s curled, it’s just not as bouncy. Now, with that being said, I haven’t quite figured out how to create the perfect curls with the Dyson Airwrap Styler. I’ve been using the larger barrel, which gives me volume and body, but not “curls”.
How much time does it actually save?
From 1 experiment, it saved me 20% in just blow drying. But if I were to go head to head on using traditional tools vs the Airwrap, I bet you’d see a 30%-35% in reduction of time. This is a pretty big deal.
Can you replace all your hair tools with it?
Great question. Not sure! I still have the same question.
It’s sold out everywhere. Any word on restocks?
At the moment, no updates on restock. I will be the first to let you know! I’ve been checking everyday. For now, I’d recommend signing up here at Sephora for restock alerts.
Is it worth it?
The verdict. Dyson gifted me the Airwrap, but if they wouldn’t have gifted me the tool, I’d be on the waitlist for the complete set.
I hope you found this review helpful. If you have any other questions please let me know in the comments below. I’ll be updating the post as I continue to experiment with new styles and restock updates!

Heatless hair styling tools have gained immense popularity among individuals looking for a way to style their hair without exposing it to the damaging effects of high temperatures. The trend of using alternative methods such as socks, leggings, bathrobe ties, silk hair ties, hair headbands, and other long fabrics to create curls or waves without the use of high heat has become a creative solution for many people. As more people began experimenting with alternative methods to create a heatless curling rod headband, the trend took off and has become a staple in the world of hair care. The heatless hair curling revolution offers a real solution to these problems, allowing people to achieve their desired hairstyles without compromising the health of their hair. As more people continue to embrace the heatless hair curling revolution, it’s clear that heatless curling trend is here to stay.
Chemical treatments such as perms, and Brazilian blowouts are another popular method for curling hair. These treatments use chemicals to break down the hair's structure and reform it into curls, which can cause dryness, brittleness, and breakage. They can also lead to hair loss, scalp irritation, and a loss of natural shine. It is best to avoid these treatments or use them infrequently to minimize damage. It is important to use these methods with caution and to take the necessary steps to protect your hair, such as using heat protectant products and not overusing chemical treatments. If that sounds scary, you’re not wrong, but there is good news, because these damaging effects spawned a heatless hair revolution!
