Newb CREE LED lighting questions...
Ok, so first, Im a newb on LED lighting.. I can wire them up, I can mount em, and even find drivers.. thats not an issue.. What I dont get is the ratios and which colors, optics and all that..I have a 90g, right now lit by T-8's with some LPS... I want to switch this over to LED and be able to add in some clams, sps, etc etc.. Im also looking to go with all CREE XP-E and XP-G leds from rapidled or somewhere comparable.. Right now I have several of their solderless ones to play around with... im thinking these are what, 1W led's ?I did go ahead and order a driver and a few led's to play with.. love the shimmers.. but gotta tone it down.. right now these have no optics on them.. So realistically, how many of these LED's would I need to appropriately light this tank.. I'm thinking 70-80 LEDs? But I don't know..Also, without the optics, the 'shimmer' on the sand bed is insane and looks like some kind of psychedelic 70's light show.. I'm guessing that the optics would resolve that.. am I right? The lights will likely be about 10-12" above the water level.. What kind of optics would be best here?I also need some help with colors.. I know cool white, blue, royal blue.. I also know I *DO* like the bluish look to the light.. not too much, but enough.. I don't want it blue blue, but I do want it noticeable.. 12 - 14k ish?? Also, other colors... Red, violet, green, UV, Cyan...Its all kind of mind boggling, and I have yet to find an article "how to pick your LED colors, numbers & optics for absolute dummies"Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
